The tradition of the Section 18 Road Trip dates back
nearly four decades when the core of Section18 had just entered the
professional world. The first trip that would be considered a
Section 18 Road Trip (even through the group had not inhabited the
section yet) was in 1978, the Arizona Wildcats first year in the
Pac-10. That season, a vagabond group of lawyers and cops organized
by Rick and Ed Gonzales, made the trek to Los Angeles
for a rare Friday night game against UCLA, a 24-14 loss.
Virtually the same group made the trip again next
year, this time to take on Southern Cal and their Heisman Trophy
Candidate Charles "Garbage Can Lid" White. Again, the Wildcats were
manhandled, 34-7.
Despite those two convincing losses in the early
years, Section 18 was undeterred in making road trips an integral
part of the Section 18 experience. The following are the known trips where a contingent of
Section 18 fans were in attendance.
